Make the comparison about your situation

The local facts stay the same. These are the pressure points and questions that matter more for this decision.

Pressure points to model

  • No employer benefits
  • COBRA is expensive
  • Irregular income
  • Covering a spouse or family

Questions worth answering

  • What do independent contractors usually need to compare?
  • What should I consider before leaving employer coverage?
  • How do I compare COBRA with other healthcare approaches?
  • What should a contractor with a family model before choosing?

How SakeOf helps

  • Use SakeOf as one option in a broader comparison, not as a guaranteed replacement
  • Model your actual household before making a decision
  • Review the Membership Handbook for current sharing guidelines and limitations

Model the move away from employer benefits

  • What did your employer used to contribute?
  • What will you pay on your own each month?
  • Do you need to cover a spouse or family too?

Contractor income can move around. Compare the monthly cost and the amount you could be responsible for when care happens.

How members use SakeOf in real life

Local facts are one part of the decision. These stories show what it looks like after joining.

One membership, several practical ways to get care

SakeOf is a healthcare membership designed to make it easier to organize everyday care, choose where to seek in-person services, and get help understanding medical bills. Start by checking which membership features you selected and have active. Then choose an appropriate care option for the situation: a virtual visit for a common, non-emergency concern, a local provider when hands-on care is needed, or SakeOf advocacy when a bill needs review.

This approach can help you make the next step clearer without making every care decision start with a billing question. Use the calculator and Savings Guide to explore membership options, search for providers, or ask Jordan a question if you want help comparing your next steps.

For common symptoms, begin with everyday care

When active, Zero Copay Telemedicine is intended for common, non-emergency illnesses and symptoms appropriate for a virtual visit. The current service partner does not impose a program limit on consultation frequency or duration. Provider availability, technology, state law, clinical judgment, and prescribing rules still apply. A clinician may recommend an in-person exam, lab work, imaging, or specialty care; those services are separate unless another active program benefit applies.

Prescription costs follow the active Rx and Prescription Benefits program. A prescription from a virtual visit does not by itself establish whether the medication is included. Check the active Rx program’s medication and pharmacy process before filling a prescription.

If you want an ongoing virtual primary-care relationship, Virtual Primary Care is an optional feature that adds $15 per month. It includes a dedicated physician relationship, ongoing virtual follow-up, an annual virtual wellness visit and health-risk assessment, and chronic-care or medication-management support when appropriate for virtual care. Rx and Prescription Benefits, Zero Copay Telemedicine, and Mental Health and Counseling must remain active for the current bundled tier.

Choose local in-person care when it fits

For an exam, test, or hands-on service, you can choose a provider and contact the office about appointments, services, and expected charges. FamilyCare’s Eleanor health center is at 503 Roosevelt Blvd. Its listed services include adult and pediatric care, women’s and prenatal health care, behavioral health, social services, and medical nutrition education. Call ahead to confirm current services, scheduling, and payment arrangements.

The Putnam County Health Department is in Winfield, not Eleanor. It lists blood pressure checks, immunizations, HIV testing and counseling, STD services, and tuberculosis testing and treatment. Appointments are required for clinical visits; contact the department to confirm current services and scheduling.

CAMC Teays Valley Hospital is in Hurricane and reports 70 beds and 24-hour operation. For an emergency, call 911; Putnam County Emergency Services describes advanced life-support response across the county. For a planned service, ask the provider for an estimate when available and clarify which facility and professional charges it includes. Labs, imaging, specialist visits, and follow-up may have separate charges. CMS offers information about hospital price transparency and estimates, which may not include every charge. www.cms.gov

Get help making a medical bill clearer

If a bill seems confusing or unusually high, SakeOf Full Service advocacy can help verify the bill, review fair pricing, and provide negotiation support. Keep the itemized bill and any explanation, denial, or payment request. An itemized bill is required for submissions and should include service dates, provider information, and CPT or HCPCS codes when available. SakeOf may also request medical records or other documentation to review eligibility, medical necessity, and pricing.

Submit complete documents within six months of the service date. Submit a balance bill, denial, or payment demand within 10 days of receiving it. The applicable member commitment and other requirements depend on the membership and event. Use the Program Guide for the relevant terms, and contact SakeOf promptly with questions about submission steps. Advocacy provides help pursuing fair pricing; it does not promise a particular outcome.

For larger eligible needs, know the process

For a larger medical event that may be eligible under the program, contact SakeOf and follow the required process. The team can review documentation, check the bill and pricing, and provide negotiation support. Eligible expenses may be considered for voluntary community funding under program rules, but funding is not guaranteed. Check the applicable member commitment and event requirements before relying on a particular benefit.

Maternity has a specific waiting period: pregnancy must begin after the continuous 12-month maternity waiting period is complete. Potentially eligible expenses include routine prenatal visits, medically necessary prenatal tests, delivery, and routine pregnancy-related postpartum care through six weeks, subject to program rules and limits. Adding or restoring the maternity feature after conception does not make that pregnancy eligible.

Match optional features to the care you use

Mental Health and Counseling may include problem assessment, supportive counseling, follow-up when available, crisis support, and referrals. Psychiatry, inpatient behavioral health, emergency psychiatric care, neuropsychological testing, residential substance-use treatment, and medication costs are separate unless another active benefit or program expressly includes them.

Other options may include dental and vision discounts, chiropractic or acupuncture, PT/OT, and durable medical equipment. Under the PT/OT feature, eligible care has a shared limit of 12 visits and a $780 annual maximum. The feature-specific member responsibility is $35 per eligible visit instead of the standard $500 event commitment. A clinician’s order, referral, or plan of care may be needed. Potentially eligible durable medical equipment includes medically necessary prescribed braces, walkers, wheelchairs, nebulizers, and similar reusable equipment ordered by a qualified provider.

Take a useful next step

Healthcare questions for Eleanor

Short answers built from the same verified local research and SakeOf benefit rules used in this guide.

What services are listed at FamilyCare in Eleanor?

FamilyCare lists adult and pediatric care, women’s and prenatal health care, behavioral health, social services, and medical nutrition education. Call the Eleanor location to confirm which services are currently available, how to schedule, and payment arrangements.

Do I need an appointment at the Putnam County Health Department?

Yes. The Putnam County Health Department in Winfield requires appointments for clinical visits. Its listed services include immunizations, blood pressure checks, HIV testing and counseling, STD services, and tuberculosis testing and treatment. Contact the department to confirm current services and scheduling.

Can I use SakeOf telemedicine for any health concern?

Zero Copay Telemedicine is intended for common, non-emergency illnesses and symptoms appropriate for virtual care. Clinical appropriateness, provider availability, technology, state law, and prescribing rules apply. Labs, imaging, specialty care, procedures, and in-person follow-up are separate unless another active program benefit applies.

How are prescriptions handled with SakeOf?

A virtual clinician may issue a prescription when clinically appropriate and legally permitted. Prescription costs follow the active Rx program; receiving a prescription through a virtual visit does not establish whether the medication is included. Check the medication and pharmacy process in your active program details.

What should I do if a medical bill is unclear?

Keep the itemized bill and any payment request, denial, or balance bill, then contact SakeOf about Full Service advocacy. Complete documents are due within six months of the service date; submit a balance bill, denial, or payment demand within 10 days of receiving it.

Where can I find a West Virginia Medicaid provider?

Use the West Virginia Medicaid Public Provider Directory to search by program, specialty, and location. Confirm directly with the provider that it participates and is accepting appointments.

What should I know about maternity timing?

Pregnancy must begin after the continuous 12-month maternity waiting period is complete for expenses to be considered under the maternity feature. Potentially eligible expenses remain subject to program rules and limits. Adding or restoring the feature after conception does not make that pregnancy eligible.
