How members use SakeOf in real life

Local facts are one part of the decision. These stories show what it looks like after joining.

Start with the care you need

SakeOf is a healthcare membership built around practical care options, your choice of provider, and support making sense of medical bills. You can start with the kind of help you need—an urgent clinical question, ongoing primary-care support, an in-person visit, or a bill that needs a closer look—and choose the next step from there.

For Atqasuk residents, the North Slope Borough lists a village health clinic at 4002 Quqlak Street. The Alaska safety-net directory lists the Atqasuk Clinic phone number as (907) 633-6711. Call to ask about current hours, services, and referral arrangements before planning a visit. www.north-slope.org health.alaska.gov

Use SakeOf’s calculator and Savings Guide to compare membership options and how features work together. Provider search and Jordan can help you continue exploring your choices.

Use virtual care for everyday questions and follow-up

When Zero Copay Telemedicine and Rx and Prescription Benefits are active, you can access unlimited medically appropriate urgent-care telemedicine consultations at no charge through the current service partner. Access is available by phone or video where licensing and partner availability permit. A clinician can help with an urgent, non-emergency concern and advise whether an in-person exam or additional care is appropriate.

If you want a continuing relationship for routine and ongoing care, Virtual Primary Care offers a dedicated physician relationship, virtual follow-up, an annual wellness visit, and chronic-care or medication-management support when appropriate for virtual care. This option has a monthly adjustment and requires Rx and Prescription Benefits, Zero Copay Telemedicine, and Mental Health and Counseling to remain active for the bundled tier.

Mental Health and Counseling provides unlimited on-demand telephonic counseling at no charge, with 24/7 access to master's-level professionals. Up to three face-to-face counseling consultations per incident may be arranged when available. The feature requires active Rx and Prescription Benefits and Zero Copay Telemedicine. Review your selected features in the calculator or membership options to see which services fit your household.

Pair virtual options with Atqasuk’s local care

For an in-person concern, contact the Atqasuk clinic and ask whether it can provide the service you need or help arrange a referral. The North Slope Borough’s Community Health Aide Program describes referral categories that include behavioral health, public health nursing, dental and eye care, and other supportive services. Ask which pathways are available now and how to arrange them. www.north-slope.org

Some services, such as a lab, imaging, or specialist visit, may require care outside the village. Before a planned appointment, gather the referral details, provider location, estimate, and any travel information in one place. If you use Alaska Medicaid, the state says eligible non-emergency travel may be available for referred care that is unavailable in the home community, subject to authorization. The referring provider must request authorization, so check the process before arranging travel. health.alaska.gov

For a planned procedure, Alaska’s price-transparency resource can help you find provider and facility disclosures. Request an estimate directly from the provider as well; posted undiscounted prices may differ from an individual’s actual payment. health.alaska.gov

Get practical support with medical bills

Full Service includes advocacy and bill review for eligible expenses. SakeOf reviews documentation, medical necessity, and price fairness and may negotiate or reprice a bill. Contact SakeOf before planned higher-cost care when reasonably possible so the team can help you understand the pricing and bill-review process.

Keep an itemized bill with service dates, provider information, and CPT or HCPCS codes when available. SakeOf may also request clinical or billing records to review a submission. Submit complete documents within six months of the service date, and submit a balance bill, denial, or payment demand within 10 days of receiving it. Keep membership current and meet the applicable member commitment under the program rules.

If a service is paid for or discounted through an optional feature, the same charge cannot be counted again as a separate sharing request unless SakeOf approves an eligible remaining balance. Keeping estimates, referrals, bills, and payment requests together makes it easier to provide the information needed for review.

Understand community support for larger eligible needs

With Full Service, a larger eligible medical event may be submitted for review and voluntary community funding under the program rules. Your applicable member commitment is the amount you are responsible for under your active membership terms; the amount and treatment of a particular event depend on those terms. Funding is voluntary. Use the calculator and Savings Guide to understand available options, and contact SakeOf early about planned major care when reasonably possible.

If you are considering the maternity feature, it is available with Full Service when offered and selected. It requires at least 12 continuous months of active membership with the feature selected before conception. The member responsibility is $5,000 per eligible pregnancy, with community sharing up to $25,000 per eligible pregnancy after that responsibility. The benefit period runs through six weeks postpartum for pregnancy-related care, subject to program rules.

Make prescriptions part of your plan

SakeOf’s prescription benefits are designed primarily for medications commonly prescribed for acute conditions. A listed medication is available at no charge when it is filled through the participating-pharmacy process and prescribing and dispensing requirements are met. Check the current pharmacy tool before filling a prescription because the formulary and participating-pharmacy rules determine whether a specific medication is included.

A medication outside the current formulary may have a negotiated or discount price, but it is not automatically available at no charge or eligible for community sharing. For Atqasuk medication access, Arctic Slope Native Association says its pharmacy serves Atqasuk and provides medications for health-aide-run village clinics; confirm current access and arrangements with the provider. www.north-slope.org
